I read somewhere that you’re never supposed to say your sorry to a blog audience. “Love is never having to say you’re sorry”? Well, you know what? I think both of those are bull. I’m sorry I haven’t written, and I think that love – or at least a loving relationship – involves saying your sorry a lot. A lot.
Here’s a picture of a baby to make us all feel better about my lack of writing, apologies, and life in general:

adorable almost-4-months-old baby
Well, that picture was taken the day we moved, and that almost-4-month-old baby is now almost five months old. Time has passed, and I’m sorry. There you go, I’ve broken rule #1, and now I’m going to break rule #2, which, as I’m sure you’re all aware, is Don’t Show Off Your House* Until You’re Done Moving In And Decorating. Because, you guys! We have a house! And I am and have been excited about it in all of its states of being (i.e. full of other people’s stuff, half empty, full of our boxes, half-moved-into, etc.), and I love seeing pictures of peoples’ homes, and so I bring you… (drumroll here)… our move, in pictures.

I should note that we moved rather suddenly; I’ve mentioned it in passing, but we came to feel unsafe in our home and moved a month before our lease ended, and two weeks before we had planned our relaxed, gradual move. Luckily, we have amazing friends who appeared as if by magic, and amazingly moved all of our things within a five hour period of time. Did I mention that some of these amazing friends had just had a baby?! The baby helped by making us smile and be happy even when we were tired of moving things. Thanks, baby.
Once the Things That Had to Be Moved were moved, our awesome Eagle Scout friend built us a fire in our fire pit. First, yes, we have a fire pit. Second, we have awesome friends, in case that wasn’t clear; one of them brought makings for s’mores. We spent our first evening not knowing where anything was, but enjoying s’mores anyway. Happy May!

awesome friends plus fire pit.

cold, tired wife (our landlord came to collect those pretty chairs the next day...sad)
The next day, we started moving things. Not necessarily to where they actually belonged, but just to places where they were out of the way. The cat helped hold the bookshelf down:

…while the dog made sure the yard didn’t go anywhere.

It didn’t.

The animals have also been enjoying the spacious, if sparse, living room. Jake especially loves the divider between the living room and entryway… a perfect vantage point for a one-eyed cat.

(why yes, there was a hole in the wall above when we moved in. and yes, our landlord spackled it RIGHT AWAY, because she is magical. we haven't painted it yet, duh.)

entryway, complete with staircase and pretty window
Lest you worried that Piper (aka The Prettiest Cat in the World) was not taking part in house supervising and holding down, do not fret! She has been doing a great job making sure the staircase stays put:

Our dining room table looks tiny in our enormous dining room, and I’m not sure yet what we’ll do with all of its space. Right now it’s just a big empty-ish room that smells good. Also, there’s a study off of it that is full of boxes, so no pictures for you. The point is that there is a lot of space.

big empty dining room! with clutter on table already. go us.
You guys? Our kitchen is glorious. GLORIOUS. So much light and counter space and storage space and the sunroom is right off of it… yes, sunroom. Yes, skylight. Yes yes yes.

kitchen! skylight! squee!

sunroom
There are no pictures of the bedrooms or the bathroom (which, by the way, is almost the size of our first apartment) because at the time of photographing, our carpets were being cleaned, and all of the bedroom/study furniture was in the bathroom (again, it’s the size of our first apartment). Luckily, we have the beautiful sunporch pictured above, so we just spent the night there while the carpets dried. The nights and a good chunk of the next day.
This is how awesome my life is: a book, cat, and wife on a summery afternoon. Yes, please.

How are you all doing? Did those baby pictures make your ovaries ache? If not, it’s probably because the photograph is protecting you from her evil reproductive-desire-inducing superpowers. Seriously, she’s impressive, especially if you have to give her back at the end of the day. And more importantly than that, when are you coming to visit? It seems we have space for you…
*By “Your House” I of course mean “The House You Are Renting,” not “The House You Have Purchased,” because only grownups do things like buy houses.

I. Can’t. Handle. This.
See ya whenever I appear with a bag of marshmallows and a good roasting stick.
Hahahahaha. Come over sooooon! When are you moving? I admit I have been thinking jealously of your city apartment. And your dog.
OMG I am SOOOO jealous of your house! So jealous. I want one just like it. It’s fantastic! I’m so glad something great came out of all the madness and I will have to come enjoy the fire pit at some point.
Come live with us, simple solution
No but seriously, come visit soon, okay? Okay.
That yard is AWESOME!!! And *love* <3 <3 <3 the kitchen with a skylight. A bathroom the size of an apartment? Sounds like ours. When we take people on a tour of our house, I always say we could just have the party in the bathroom!
So glad you are happy in your new place – I hope you make lots of wonderful memories! Whenever we get around to taking a trip to New England (it's on our bucket list), we may just have to come visit! Of course, if you ever make it to Memphis, you have to come stay with us, too!
It’s beautiful and I really want to see it soon! I’m glad the non-human animals also seem to be comfy.
Wow! Your new house looks fabulous!
Your house looks amazing! Simply amazing. The fire pit in the backyard really makes me jealous. I would be out there roasting marshmallows every night if I lived there.
I left a post yesterday about how I am SUPER JEALOUS of your beautiful new house and how funny cats are, but then the Internet ate it. Suffice to say, your family looks pretty pleased with your new home, and it looks amazing!
Oh, I am SO JEALOUS of your new yard! Your house is so cute & I can’t wait to see more pictures
oooh, lovely!!
