My little sister was in my dream last night. She is getting married in one month and two days, so it’s not crazy that she would feature prominently in a dream about weddings. However, it is a little odd that last night’s dream was about my wedding, which happened two and a half years ago.
obligatory wedding picture, in case you forgot it happened
In my dream, Dream Sister had apparently missed the first Bird-Turtle wedding, so she kept telling us to have another one. She was really quite insistent, despite the fact that we had already HAD a second wedding, which she had attended! Fancy wedding #2 was on a dock and was fancy and pretty and all of Dream Sister’s friends were there (these, of course, were actual friends from Real Life). Funny, in my dream none of MY friends were there, but all of her high school friends were there.
However, this was just NOT ENOUGH and Dream Sister wanted us to get married AGAIN. She was very pushy. But not as pushy as Dream Mom! Who kept insisting that we get married in this specific spot IN THE OCEAN. She insisted that the spot she chose was shallow and pretty and safe, even though there was a SNAPPING TURTLE walking around in it. Did any of you have that lesson at summer camp where they catch a turtle and tell you not to put your finger near its face and then they demonstrate why by offering it a pencil? And then that adorable little turtle, who just wants to lie out in the sun and look pretty all day long, reaches out and snaps that pencil in half with one quick bite? Turtles don’t even have teeth! DOESN’T SOUND SAFE TO ME, MOM.
looks innocent. it's not. (this is also not a snapping turtle, i know)
And then a whale swam by. That was actually pretty cool, because how often do you get to see a whale when you’re just hanging out on a pretty dock with all of your sister’s friends? (I still don’t know why they were there – waiting around for wedding #3?). Then the whale swam by the snapping turtle and I was all, “If a whale can fit there it is too deep!” and Dream Mom was all, “Whatever.” and Dream Sister was all, “GET MARRIED AGAIN.”
I’m sure you can do some unpacking here. Let’s not even touch on the part where I dreamt of a scary turtle and didn’t want to go near it while my wife’s blog name is Turtle. Sorry, honey!
Today and tomorrow are the decisions
about some pretty big marriage equality cases, so maybe that’s rolling around in my head. Fingers crossed – maybe we will be able to get married again, all federally this time.
